Geotechnical Engineering
CHJ Consultants’ professional engineers, certified geologists and staff geologists perform the investigations which may include assessments of risk to humans, property and the environment from hazards such as earthquakes, landslides, sinkholes, soil liquefaction, or debris flows and rock falls in order to test the behavior of earth materials.

Soils Testing
During construction, CHJ Consultants performs observation and compaction testing for earthwork and construction projects. Our experienced technicians are directed by our geotechnical engineers and engineering geologists. Our construction project experience includes deep foundation systems and large retaining walls, as well as earthwork projects involving deep fills. We also perform special evaluations concerning landslide and structure distress issues.

CHJ Consultants’ field technicians are trained and experienced with all levels of soil testing, asphalt concrete testing, and grading observation. In addition, the field technicians are equipped with the proper equipment to accurately expedite the project. This equipment includes nuclear gauges for quick and accurate compaction test results of soils and asphalt concrete.

Engineering Geology
Engineering geology is the application of the geological sciences to the design, construction, and maintenance of engineering works. CHJ Consultants has performed engineering geology investigations for projects ranging in size from large planned residential communities to individual structures.

Environmental Consulting Services (Phase I & II)
CHJ Consultants performs environmental assessments to determine the potential for significant environmental contamination on or in the vicinity of the subject property from previous and/or existing use, and disposal or storage of hazardous substances.

Laboratory Testing Services
CHJ Consultants’ testing laboratory enjoys the reputation of being one of the leading materials and soil testing laboratories in Southern California. The laboratory's record of service and technical excellence makes it the testing laboratory of choice for many contractors, material producers, and project owners throughout Southern California.

Construction Inspection
CHJ Consultants performs special inspections on a wide range of projects during their construction in order to check for code and plan violations. These inspections include concrete, structural masonry, welding, high strength bolting of structural steel, and fireproofing.

Forensic/Legal
CHJ Consultants provides expert consultation services to assist in the evaluation and remediation of matters related to adverse soil, geologic, or hydrologic conditions. Our expertise includes the evaluation of structural distress related to adverse soil and/or geologic conditions. Robert Johnson, P.E., G.E., is the primary contact for these services.

Availability and Response Time
CHJ Consultants is able to provide observation and field testing services 24 hours a day, if necessary. However, please note that any testing to be performed after normal business hours would require advance notice to allow our Operations Manager to make the proper arrangements. In addition, our office and personnel are centrally located, and our technicians are able to provide expedited response times to any project.

Qualifications
CHJ Consultants provides full geotechnical engineering, including engineering geology and environmental engineering, as well as special inspection and construction materials testing. The firm consists of over 40 employees, including four Professional Civil Engineers, two of whom are also Professional Geotechnical Engineers, one Professional Quality Control Engineer, two Certified Engineering Geologists, two Registered Environmental Assessors, as well as staff geologists, staff engineers, field and laboratory technicians, public works inspectors, and Registered Deputy Building Inspectors.
